Digital Scriptorium (digital-scriptorium.org), a growing consortium of over 40 American institutions with collections of manuscripts representing global manuscript cultures. Since 1997, DS has dedicated its work to providing a digital infrastructure for building an online national union catalog for manuscripts in American collections. In June 2023 and in partnership with the Schoenberg Institute for Manuscript Studies (SIMS) at Penn Libraries, DS launched a fully reconceived platform based on linked open data technologies and practices developed by SIMS’s combined expertise in manuscript studies, digital humanities, cultural heritage computer programming, and project management under the project name DS 2.0.  Now known as the “DS Catalog,” the new public-facing platform uses Wikibase, an open source, LOD-based software to collect and store consortium members’ structured metadata relating to their premodern manuscripts. In this lecture,  we  will introduce the new platform and explore its applications for manuscript research in US collections in an LOD environment.
