The Thea Marie Garfield Fund was created in 2006 through a gift from the Eugene Garfield Foundation, and supports acquisitions in all disciplines and formats. It was established in memory of Thea Marie Garfield, daughter of Eugene Garfield, GR'61, who excelled as a student at Swarthmore High School, and had a special love of reading. The fund also serves to honor the friendship Dr. Garfield shared with Martin Meyerson, former President of the University.

Eugene Garfield has been a long-time friend of Penn Libraries, having served on the Board of Advisors and donated in support of several areas.
