The A. H. Scouten Memorial Fund was established in 1998 by the students, friends, and family of Penn Professor of English Arthur Hawley "Joe" Scouten as a tribute to his life of teaching and scholarship. Joe Scouten was a scholar, teacher, and faithful friend of the Penn Libraries, helping the Rare Book & Manuscript Library acquire the Teerink Collection of Swiftiana — some 1,800 volumes by Jonathan Swift. The fund supports the acquisition of books and other materials in the fields of study to which Professor Scouten devoted his professional life — theater history, the eighteenth century, and Jonathan Swift.
