A key service that the Libraries offers to the Penn community is deep disciplinary and digital collaborations in support of research. The Research Services Council (RSC) has a focus on librarians as partners in research and innovation and identifies and tracks opportunities for Penn librarians to engage in deep and customizable services and collaborations with the research community, embedding collections and expertise into the research lifecycle and workflow, and encouraging the use of new technologies and tools in the research workflow.

The council assumes responsibility for assuring a high level of quality in our research services. The RSC meets twice a month or as needed to advise the Associate University Librarian for Research Services regarding the Libraries' services to the research community.

Outcomes will include furthering the Libraries’ ability to:

  • Consistently provide a well-defined variety of high level services to the research community.
  • Facilitate teamwork and referrals across the Libraries’ divisions and across disciplines to avoid "reinventing the wheel" and to leverage collective expertise.
  • Increase visibility, at Penn and beyond, of librarians as partners in research.
